Setting up Google Analytics in Confluence
We're going to talk about configuring Google Analytics in Confluence and transferring the configuration and account ownership from one Google Analytics user to another.
Here we have the main screen—the analytics overview screen within Confluence—and you can see that it's not configured yet. So, we'll go ahead and configure it.
Steps to configure Google Analytics
Sign in with Google:
Select all the permissions and press Continue.
The system will automatically select the only Google Analytics account available.
Verify the property in Google Analytics:
Check your Google Analytics account to confirm it has the correct property.
Click Save, and you’ll see a success message confirming the update.
Check the configuration:
All items should now be configured.
Return to the analytics overview—initially, there may be no data, but it will populate within the next day.
Transferring ownership of a Google Analytics account
Now, let’s transfer ownership from one user (e.g., "GA Account Number One") to another.
Steps to transfer ownership
In Google Analytics (https://analytics.google.com/)
Access admin settings:
Go to Admin > Property Access Management.
You’ll see a list of current users with access.
Add the new user:
Copy the email address of the new user (e.g., "GA Account Number Two").
In Google Analytics, select Add Access Permissions.
Paste the new user’s email and assign Administrator access (to allow future removal of the old account).
Verify the new user’s access:
Log in as the new user and reload the account.
They should now see the transferred Google Analytics property.
Updating Confluence with the new account
In Confluence
Reconfigure in Confluence:
From the Google Analytics Overview screen, go to Configure in the “•••” dropdown.
Sign in again, this time using the new Google Analytics account.
Select the property and save.
Confirm the transfer:
The configure screen should now show the new account as the active user.
Removing old account permissions
To finalize the transfer, in Google Analytics, remove the old user’s access:
Go to Property Access Management:
Locate the old user (e.g., "GA Account Number One").
Either set their role to None or Remove them entirely.
Check account-level permissions (optional):
If permissions were set at the account level, navigate to Account Access Management.
Adjust permissions here if needed (e.g., downgrade or remove old users).
Verify changes:
Reload the account to confirm only the new user has access.
Conclusion
By following these steps, you can successfully:
Configure Google Analytics in Confluence.
Transfer account ownership between users.
Ensure seamless continuity in tracking and reporting.
